MEDIA ALERT: COMODO SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST KENNETH GEERS TO PRESENT ON GEOPOLITICS, CYBER WAR AND GLOBAL MALWARE TRENDS AT RSA CONFERENCE 2017
RSA Conference 2017—SAN FRANCISCO– Jan. 24, 2017 – Comodo, a global innovator and developer of cybersecurity solutions, has announced that Senior Research Scientist Kenneth Geers will be a prominent speaker at RSA Conference 2017, presenting on topics ranging from geopolitics in the digital age and cyber war to global malware trends, during three sessions in San Francisco, Feb. 13-17.
As someone with years of experience in a variety of cybersecurity realms, including NATO and the NSA, Dr. Geers is uniquely qualified to speak to the growing global concerns around, not only malware in general, but specific issues such as ransomware and the impact of nation-state hackers, as well as the closer-to-home issues, such as the threats we all face with increasing availability of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
Dr. Geers will speak to three relevant topics during his visit to RSA 2017. His first session, titled, “The Politics of Attribution,” will speak to global concerns, specifically the impact of cyberattacks on domestic politics and international relations, diplomacy, prosecution and retaliation. How can we gauge the quality of attribution in light of political motivation?
During his second session, “Cyber War in 2020,” Dr. Geers will address the increasingly complicated state of cyber war, citing the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election as only the latest (and most spectacular) target. Digital attacks vex traditional defense concepts, such as deterrence and arms control, and their rapid evolution – now encompassing fake news, doxing and IoT botnets – making it difficult for defenders to keep up. This talk examines what cyber war will look like in the year 2020 and how it will impact domestic politics, international relations and national security around the globe.
In his final session, “Global Traffic Analysis 101,” Dr. Geers considers an even broader aspect of the cybersecurity world, as he looks at how we as an entire global community communicate via the internet. He examines and evaluates who is talking to whom, what languages they are using, whether their traffic is encrypted and how much of it is authenticated. In addition, he will detail the global use of malicious code to subvert network security, including who is using malware and for what purpose. As perhaps a very fitting final question for consideration during RSA, the largest cybersecurity conference in the world, Dr. Geers asks, “How much do we not know about what is happening on the net?”
Dr. Geers will join a who’s-who list of government representatives, threat researchers and academics in San Francisco as they work together to help attendees secure their organizations and their futures. The RSA Conference is the leading international information security conference and exposition, with its events collectively drawing more than 45,000 attendees per year.
