Comodo Partners with Optimus to Launch Thunder DNS – Affordable Cybersecurity for the Next Billion Internet Users

Partnership will target regional internet service providers, to help secure underserved markets

CLIFTON, N.J., Jan. 31, 2018 – Comodo, a global innovator and developer of cybersecurity solutions, today announced an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnership with Optimus, a global networking, security and artificial intelligence leader, to offer Thunder DNS, a next-generation Domain Name System (DNS) software solution that provides cybersecurity designed to protect the next billion internet connections around the world. The partnership specifically targets small, regional internet service providers (ISPs), to help them better secure users in underserved, tertiary markets. New internet connections happen every day as new users or new devices decide to take advantage of a connected world. However, these new connections are also the most vulnerable, as new users lack the experience to discern good internet from bad internet, and IoT devices can create security vulnerabilities. Adding to the problem, cyber theft is the fastest-growing crime in the U.S. and is expected to cost the global economy $6 trillion annually by 2021. Unfortunately, many regional service providers are limited in their ability to leverage significant technology advancements that protect new connections from virtual threats lurking online due to prohibitive pricing models, resource limitations and integration challenges. With Thunder DNS, Comodo and Optimus are bringing world-class cybersecurity technologies to protect the next billion, and leveraging DNS is the perfect technology to provide that security. DNS is a fundamental building block of the internet. All devices use DNS to navigate the web, just like people once used the yellow pages to look up a phone number. Since DNS acts as a gateway for virtually all online communications, it can be re-purposed to also protect users from online threats. “DNS servers are starting to play a larger and larger role in the overall security of keeping the quality of internet experience high,” said customer Faisal Imtiaz, owner of Snappy Internet & Telecom. “As service providers, we have to take an active role in providing the very best performance and security balance for our customers and the internet eco-system.” Advantages of using the DNS for security is that DNS is an extremely simple, scalable and low-cost security option. These advantages are most needed for the next billion connections, where pricing and simplicity have likely prevented early adoption. “Optimus and Comodo have teamed up to solve underserved internet markets’ technological problems and make next-generation cybersecurity widely available,” said Ryan Rowley, GM of Optimus. “For the past seven years, I’ve worked with growing service providers around the globe. These regional providers integrate hard work, ingenuity and pragmatism to offer world-class services in places neglected by corporate giants.” The inclusion of Comodo’s Secure DNS technology in the Thunder DNS solution allows the firm to reach tertiary markets and secure the internet for users that haven’t had exposure to its technology in the past. The domain name resolution service resolves DNS requests through Comodo’s worldwide network of redundant DNS servers. This can provide a safer, faster and more reliable internet browsing experience than legacy technology currently being used by many ISPs. “In this new internet age, having a very solid, secure, high performance DNS server is one of the most important components of a quality internet service experience,” said Melih Abdulhayoglu, CEO of Comodo. “Comodo leverages the ubiquitous nature of DNS to protect entire networks from cyberthreats such as malware, ransomware, viruses and more. We look forward to working with regional ISPs and introducing them to our advanced security technologies through this exciting partnership with Optimus.” In the next six months, Comodo and Optimus plan to have regional service providers implement their solution around the world. Currently, they have deployments in North America, South America and Asia. They expect to start trials in Europe, Africa and Australia in the next eight weeks.
